The collection contains the roll book of the 22nd Indiana Infantry Regiment, Company K, 1861-1865. The entries include the soldiers' physical descriptions, state of origin, occupations, and enlistment information. The book also notes whether the soldier survived the war. William F. Allee annotated the verso of page 1 of the book with comments concerning the history of the regiment, statistics on casualties, and how he came to retain the book.

William F. Allee was born in Hendricks County, Ind., in 1844. He enlisted as a private in the 22nd Indiana Infantry Regiment, Company K, in 1861. Allee participated in every regimental engagement and was promoted to the rank of captain in 1865. After the war he married Eliza Merrill Parker and the couple raised four children.
